In the second semester of 2007, a total of 296,000 counterfeit euro banknotes were withdrawn from circulation. This figure represents a slight increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
The 50 Euro banknote was the most counterfeited during the second semester of 2007. The sum of the three intermediate denominations (20€, 50€ and 100€) accounted for about 88% of the total counterfeit banknotes.
