According to the newspaper "La Vanguardia" in its edition of Thursday, May 24, 2007, one of the largest networks distributing fake Euro bills in Europe has been dismantled.
A total of 61 people have been arrested. The bills were hidden in double bottoms of suitcases and were transported by various couriers mainly at Barajas and El Prat airports.
The bills were of high quality and their lack of value was only discovered when they entered the banking circuit.
The counterfeit bills were always 100, 50 and 20 euro bills. The Spanish police report that currently one million fake euros are being withdrawn.
