MADRID, 16 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -
The Civil Guard agents stationed in the Judicial Police Team of Collado Villalba and in the Investigation area of the Galapagar Post have dismantled a group, made up of eight people, specialized in the Counterfeiting and distribution of fake currency in localities of the northwest of the Community of Madrid.
According to the Civil Guard, Operation 'Castilla', which originated in January 2010, was aimed at the arrest of the people who were distributing counterfeit money in small shops and shopping centers from Galapagar and other nearby towns.
In all cases, the criminals bought an item of little value, paying with bills of a face value much higher than the expense they wanted to make, in order to also obtain an economic benefit from their scam.
The information provided by the victims who reported to the Civil Guard was sufficient to identify one of the criminals, from which the investigations of the operation began.
During the course of the 12-month operation, the Civil Guard agents identified the rest of the individuals involved in the crimes, in addition to locating the apartments from which the counterfeit bills were being produced.
The investigations concluded when the plot that the now detained had woven was unraveled: while two of them only they were dedicated to the production of counterfeit money, The other six were responsible for distributing them and making purchases after acquiring them from the counterfeiters.
With the relevant judicial authorization, the Civil Guard agents searched the six houses, located in Galapagar, Colmenarejo, Becerril de la Sierra and Torrejón de Ardoz, where they found numerous pieces of evidence that definitively linked the suspects to the committed crimes.
Thanks to the operation, the Civil Guard has been able to seize a pistol with the serial number erased and numerous cartridges of different calibers; 35,000 fake euros in bills of 200, 50, 20, 10 and 5 euros; and the necessary computer equipment for the execution of the counterfeits.
They were also able to seize several fraudulent identification documents, so it is suspected that in addition to money, they could have forged this type of documentation.
The eight detainees, three of them Spanish, four Moroccans, and one Guinean, aged between 22 and 48, have been admitted to the Madrid V Penitentiary Center, in Soto del Real, by order of the Judicial Authority.
