A man from Ivory Coast is in police custody in Abu Dhabi after he allegedly persuaded a woman to attempt to exchange two fake one-million-dollar bills each at the central bank of the United Arab Emirates.
The suspect promised the woman to give her 30% of the money after exchanging the bills allegedly for dollars or dirhams _the local currency_, the Police said. The suspect was identified in press reports on Sunday only by the initials A.B.
The counterfeit bills showed the portrait of George Washington that is found on one-dollar bills and were black and white on the front face.
The suspect claimed that the bills were real, assured Colonel Rashid Mohammed Bursheed, head of the organized crime unit, quoted by the national newspaper.
