Far from balancing, the accounts were slightly off. Each week a little bit. But a little bit here and a little bit there, they turned into no less than 210,000 euros in less than a year. That was exactly the money that the manager of a supermarket in Cambrils secretly pocketed. The Civil Guard arrested him the day before yesterday for an alleged offense of embezzlement after the heads of the LIDL supermarket chain opened an internal investigation and reported their employee. The agents recovered a small part of his booty in the detainee's house: 16200 euros in cash-
In a studied and discreet way, the manager of the establishment - located next to the N-340 as it passes through Cambrils, was withdrawing the money he was appropriating with dissimulation. In such a way he acted, that it made the heads of the chain think that it was some of the supermarket employees who was stealing the money and not the boss himself, Xavier GLI, a 43-year-old man and neighbor of Tarragona.
The accounts of the Tarragona supermarket started to fail in August 2006. Already then the heads of the company reported him to the Civil Guard who initiated an investigation that has had the collaboration of the chain's own heads. And the investigation was prolonged while the money was missing. The agents calculated that the manager stole the 210,000 euros between August 2006 and June of this year. Making an average, the boss of the establishment had stolen the not inconsiderable figure of more than 19,000 euros "extra" each month for a year.
After months of discreet investigation, since the alleged thief made everything point to other employees as authors, the arrest took place the day before yesterday in the early afternoon at the establishment that the chain has in the Fortuny neighborhood of Reus as reported yesterday by the sub-delegation of the Government of Tarragona. The Civil Guard also carried out a house search at the detainee's house, where they found 16,200 euros that according to the agents comes from the amount that the detainee misappropriated.
